Fixed-term Senior Lecturer in Archaeology

The Department of Archaeology, Ancient History and Conservation Studies is seeking a temporary Senior Lecturer in Archaeology, based at Campus Gotland in Visby.
The department conducts teaching and research in seven subjects: Ancient History and Classical Studies, Archaeology, Assyriology, Egyptology, Conservation, Osteology, and Global Environmental History. The department operates in both Uppsala, at Campus Engelska parken, and Visby, at Campus Gotland. It offers six Bachelor’s programmes and ten Master’s programmes, many of which are taught in English, as well as a large number of independent courses. Doctoral education is offered in Archaeology, Ancient History and Classical Studies, Egyptology, and Conservation. The department has around 90 employees. Duties
The position as a fixed-term Senior Lecturer includes teaching, research and administration. The postholder is expected to be able to teach at undergraduate and advanced level in Archaeology and Conservation, including the joint first year of the Bachelor’s programme in Archaeology and Ancient History (AAH). Teaching duties include course coordination, course administration, lectures, seminars, examinations and supervision, with a focus on archaeological landscapes, cultural heritage, the environment and sustainability. The position also includes lectures and seminars on the department’s other courses.
Eligibility and qualification requirements
Under the Higher Education Ordinance, a person is eligible for appointment as a fixed-term Senior Lecturer if they have been awarded a doctoral degree in Archaeology or have attained equivalent academic expertise.
The teaching skills and academic expertise must be relevant to the subject content of the position and the duties included in it.
In addition, under Uppsala University’s Rules of Appointment, applicants must demonstrate teaching skills through documented qualifications in education and teaching. To demonstrate teaching skills, applicants must have completed higher education teaching training relevant to the position, amounting to at least five weeks, or be considered to have equivalent knowledge.
A general eligibility requirement for teachers also applies: applicants must have the personal qualities required to perform the duties of the position well. Very good cooperation skills are essential.
As teaching is conducted in both Swedish and English, applicants must be able to teach in both languages.
Desirable/Other qualifications
