A total of 16,041 new passenger cars were registered in January, 18 percent fewer than in the same month last year, according to Mobility Sweden's monthly statistics.
Electric cars accounted for 42 percent of new registrations in the month, up from 29 percent in January last year.
"The weak start to the year is a continuation of the autumn's trend. Uncertainty around tariffs and geopolitics means that both private and corporate customers are being cautious and postponing their car purchases," says Sofia Linder, chief economist at Mobility Sweden, in a press release.
