Electric Cars Account for More Than Half of New Registrations in October

Electric cars are taking an increasing share of the market. In October, more than half of all newly registered passenger cars were electric.

New monthly statistics from industry organization Mobility Sweden show an increase of 45 percent compared with the same month last year. At the same time, the overall share of electric cars in the market rose from 36 percent to 51 percent.

The increase came at the expense of plug-in hybrids, whose share fell from 29.5 to almost 22 percent.

“The decline in plug-in hybrids in favor of electric cars shows that more and more companies and households are ready to drive electric cars. Companies are driving the electric car market, while private customers are increasingly choosing electric cars,” says Sofia Linder, chief economist at Mobility Sweden, in a press release.

Correction: An earlier version stated 41 percent. The correct figure is 51 percent.
