S leader Magdalena Andersson has announced that she is returning the exploratory mission to the Speaker and ending the attempt to form a new government.
The reason is that V intends to vote for Andreas Norlén (M) as Speaker, Andersson says.
"It feels a bit hasty," says the Left Party's Ida Gabrielsson on her way into the Riksdag chamber for the roll call and Speaker vote.
This issue of forming a government is not related to the speaker election.
MP: Regrettable
She believes that Andreas Norlén has proven himself capable and non-partisan.
At the same time, the four red-green parties have not been able to meet together in the negotiating room about a new government, which V is upset about.
"The Left Party has decided to vote for Andreas Norlén, a Moderate Speaker. It is incredibly regrettable," says Green Party spokesman Daniel Helldén on his way into the chamber.
Åkesson: No shock
SD party leader Jimmie Åkesson believes that Magdalena Andersson's statement was expected.
"We have known for a long time that she will not be able to put together her government documents. Today's announcement should therefore not come as a shock to anyone," he says in a written comment.
KD leader Ebba Busch, in turn, writes that her party is ready to take responsibility.
"There is a majority in the Riksdag for bourgeois economic policy, that majority would serve Sweden well."
