In Shanghai and Shenzhen, the composite indexes stood at plus 1.2 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively, in the morning. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng was simultaneously up 1.6 percent.
China released GDP figures for the third quarter on Friday, which show that the country's economy is struggling to gain momentum. During the quarter, the annual rate was 4.6 percent, lower than both the second and first quarters this year, but still slightly better than analysts had expected.
In Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 index was up 0.4 percent, while the broader Topix index stood at plus 0.3 percent.
