I will probably tell you on April 2, but it will be around 25 percent, Trump said to reporters during a press conference in Florida on Tuesday evening, after being asked about what he thinks about tariffs on cars.

When asked if similar tariffs would be imposed on medicines and microchips, the President replied:

They will be 25 percent and higher, and they will be significantly higher over the course of a year.

Trump said he wants to give companies time to move to the USA before announcing additional tariffs.

When they come to the USA and have their facility or factory here, there is no tax, so we want to give them a little chance, he said.

About eight million passenger cars and light trucks were imported to the USA last year, which accounted for about half of American sales.

Trump did not specify whether the tariffs would target specific countries or apply to all vehicles imported to the USA.
