Swedish healthcare is of high quality, and healthcare queues have decreased during the mandate period.
But the queues are still as long as before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Healthcare is also unequal. Few regions reach the national primary care benchmark of 1,100 inhabitants per general practitioner.
Access to available care places, psychiatry, specialists and cancer care also differs greatly.
To address the problems, left-leaning parties tend to want to increase resources to the regions, which are responsible for healthcare. S accuses the government of having put welfare on a "starvation diet" during this term.
Bourgeois parties instead emphasise that healthcare queues can be cut with more government control, reduced bureaucracy and increased competition. The Moderates accuse the Social Democrats in Stockholm Region of having closed down private healthcare for purely ideological reasons over the past four years.
This is what the parties think
At the national level, the Social Democrats are promising in this year's election to increase the regions' state subsidies in line with inflation every year.
S also wants 80 percent of the population to have a permanent named doctor as a first step. The 1177 healthcare guide is to be expanded with a national online doctor service, and private health insurance is to be banned in publicly funded healthcare.
The Moderates, for their part, want to tighten the care guarantee from the current 90 days to 30 days. Regions that do not offer care in a timely manner should pay for care in another region. Patients should also have the right to choose care throughout the country, according to M.
The Sweden Democrats want the state to take over responsibility for healthcare in the long term.
SD also wants resources to be tied more tightly to requirements. More money should go to staff and patient meetings, not administration. The party also wants to establish a new form of state psychiatric homes.
The Centre Party believes that everyone should have a permanent doctor.
The party has launched a form of care they call "rural doctors" with small doctor-run practices. C also wants to make it easier for patients to compare care and waiting times via 1177.
Abolish the regions
The Christian Democrats are the only party that wants to nationalise healthcare as early as the next term.
KD is also pushing for a stricter healthcare guarantee, a reform of psychiatric care and a national digital infrastructure.
The Left Party is fighting to stop privatisations in welfare.
V also wants to significantly increase the regions' state subsidies, see more outreach work in socially vulnerable areas, and not let people with private health insurance take precedence in public healthcare.
The Liberals believe that every child who visits BUP should have the right to a personal care contact. Everyone should also have the right to a permanent doctor.
L also wants to see extended opening hours at health centres, more clinics and urgent care centres.
The Green Party is pushing for increased government subsidies and strengthened primary care so that more people have regular healthcare contact.
MP also wants mental health to be prioritised as highly as physical health. Public healthcare should not be able to be combined with private health insurance, according to the party.
