The government will take the initiative with the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, to seek a changed interpretation of the refugee regulations, reports TV4. More people could be deported.

The intention is to bring about a change so that rape always leads to deportation, even for people with refugee status.

"We have recently seen several cases where foreign citizens have been convicted of serious sexual crimes but are still not deported from Sweden. It is directly offensive," writes Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in a comment to TT.

The government hopes to bring other countries on board, primarily within the EU and the Nordic countries.

Sweden will soon have the toughest regulations in the Nordic region for criminal deportations, but that is not enough. We also want to change the international framework, Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M) tells TV4.
