Investigations show, according to the authority, that Swedish students lack lesson time where they can discuss romantic relationships, sexual consent, and what is acceptable to do in a relationship.
A new report from the School Inspectorate also shows that the education is insufficient in 49 out of 60 reviewed elementary and upper secondary schools.
Students are supposed to learn, according to the curriculum, about the biological perspective, as well as themes such as consent, relationships, and equality. But schools rarely take a comprehensive approach, says Olivia Öberg, investigator at the School Inspectorate, in a press release.
"Students do not get to deepen their knowledge and we have student voices pointing out that they instead repeat what has already been covered earlier. There is therefore a risk that students' knowledge becomes more superficial."
According to the review, the education about consent often stops at the concept itself. Students instead request more discussions about realistic situations.
