After Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) announced his resignation, work began on appointing a new one.
The task of probing for a new government will go to Magdalena Andersson in the first round. This was announced by Speaker Andreas Norlén after individual talks with all party leaders.
The S leader will initially have ten days, until Monday, September 28, when she will report back to the new Speaker of the Riksdag. The new Speaker will then decide when the assignment will be reported.
It could be the same day, or it could be on Wednesday or Thursday, says Norlén.
He says the S leader can also ask for more time.
V does not back down
Magdalena Andersson wants to seek “broad collaborations.” Regarding the exploratory mission, she says in a written comment that it is a mission she is taking on “with great humility” and that she will act constructively to achieve a new government.
She has not answered how she will succeed in bringing together C's and V's red lines, other than saying that she will talk and negotiate with several parties.
She will contact six party leaders, all except Jimmie Åkesson (SD). She says she has already been in contact with some, but not which ones.
V leader Nooshi Dadgostar stands firm on the demand for ministerial posts.
We will vote for a government that we ourselves sit in. We prefer a four-party government so that it will be effective, she says after the meeting with the Speaker.
According to the V leader, V will refuse to sit down with the others unless it concerns government negotiations.
She thinks that C has taken an unreasonable position.
I appeal to them to come to the negotiating table if there is to be anything at all.
According to Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist, however, such a meeting is unthinkable.
Since the purpose of the meeting is to negotiate a government, there is no big point in going to that meeting because we believe that we cannot sit in government with the Left Party.
She urges the S leader to seek support for "a stable government in the middle".
KD: Tricky
KD leader Ebba Busch says that it “feels reasonable” that Magdalena Andersson will receive the first exploratory assignment. But she does not believe that it is “a run for a blue-yellow alternative” and she will not support or sit in a government with Magdalena Andersson.

L will also vote red for an S-led government. L leader Simona Mohamsson says that she and Magdalena Andersson have nothing to talk about.

When the red-greens can't get it together, then the Centre Party is welcome to join the blue-yellow team.
The Speaker believes that the work of forming a government could be “complicated.”
