She will present the proposals at a press conference ahead of her May Day speech in Stockholm.

In order to implement the promise, more than 3,000 additional teachers will need to be hired in primary schools, according to the party's calculations.

Too few meet the requirements

With more teachers, 6-9-year-olds in primary school will be able to get more help, above all, with learning to read and count. Today, too many primary school students do not meet the requirements of national tests in Swedish and mathematics, the Social Democrats emphasize.

We know that a good start to school is important for a person to do well at school and later in life, so that is why we want to implement this small school reform with small classes, says Magdalena Andersson.

The rules specifying the maximum number of students per teacher should be binding for both municipal schools and independent schools, the party proposes.

Earlier in the day, the S leader spoke in Tornparken, Sundbyberg, where she demanded that the government develop an economic protection plan for Sweden when the war in the Middle East threatens the wallets and jobs of "ordinary people."

- But Sweden needs a new government and I want to lead it.

Want to abolish the qualifying period deduction

Andersson promises that S will do its part to abolish the, according to S, "unfair" qualifying deduction, and says the party will push for workers' pensions, green technology and good conditions for ordinary people.

How much more of what is our common good will be sold off if the government is allowed to continue, said the S leader, promising a systemic shift in terms of market interests in welfare - in schools and healthcare.
