She presented the proposals at a press conference between her two May Day speeches, in Sundbyberg and Stockholm.

In order for the promise to be possible to implement, more than 3,000 additional teachers will need to be hired in primary schools, according to the party's calculations.

Too few meet the requirements

With more teachers, 6- to 9-year-olds in primary school will be able to get more help, above all with learning to read and count, in a few years at the earliest. Today, too many are not passing the national tests in Swedish and mathematics, the Social Democrats (S) point out.

We know that a good start in school is important for a person to do well in school and later in life, so that is why we want to implement this small school reform, says Magdalena Andersson.

The rules specifying the maximum number of students per teacher shall be binding for both municipal schools and independent schools, according to the Social Democrats (S).

In her May Day speech at Norra Bantorget, she says that it is time for a new government after the autumn elections. She would like to lead it.

- I don't promise everything to everyone. But I promise to put ordinary people with ordinary jobs and ordinary salaries first, she says to the audience in the sunlit courtyard at Norra Bantorget, next to the LO building.

Done the homework

She says that the Social Democrats (S) has done its homework since the election loss in 2022 and changed its policy. The course is set for a system shift in terms of market interests in welfare - the profit interest should go to schools and healthcare. The Sweden Democrats and the Moderates have only one solution for healthcare, according to her:

Or, sorry. Now I was stingy. They have two - one: cut back and two: privatize.

She says it is time to abolish the "unfair" qualifying deduction for illness, to push for a good "workers' pension", investments in growth and green technology for more jobs, and a farewell to dependence on fossil fuels.

The Social Democrats will not hesitate to take a hard line on criminal gangs, she emphasizes, and again raises the proposal for what the Social Democrats (S) call a mafia law.

A government led by me will be tough.
