The incident occurred in the city of Alanya, about 130 kilometres from the tourist resort of Antalya. The man is said to have argued with hotel staff and then spat on the flag hanging in the hotel lobby, the DHA and IHA news agencies reported.
The staff reported the man to police. He is accused of insulting or demeaning a symbol of the Turkish state.
The British Embassy has not commented on the information.
Under Turkish law, it is illegal to publicly disrespect the Turkish flag, a crime punishable by up to three years in prison.
