Before the vote, which concerned a controversial proposal on citizenship, it was clear that the opposition would win the vote with the help of several other MPs. Then the SD broke an agreement and called in two members who had been "expelled" because other members were absent.
With the Sweden Democrats' actions, Sweden will have a lottery parliament, according to S leader Magdalena Andersson.
If there is unease in the Liberals' parliamentary group, the government's bills will not pass.
SD's actions will create chaos, she believes.
Ulf Kristersson must answer why he would bring this chaos into Sweden's government.
She was referring to Kristersson's statement that he intends to let the SD into the government if he wins the election this fall.
V leader Nooshi Dadgostar believes that the parties must change the system.
The vote needs to be retaken.
Dadgostar says that once the system is in place, SD should be kept out.
Now SD has rigged the vote, so of course they cannot be part of a future equalization system. That will have to be resolved between the other parties.
The set-off system is not a law but an agreement between the parties, mainly between the blocs, that absent members should not affect the balance of power in Riksdag votes.
If one or more members cannot attend, they are "set off" against a member of another party who abstains from voting.
The system is very old and has been used since at least the early 20th century. However, the SD was not allowed into the system until 2021, eleven years after entering the Riksdag.
