People who have moved to Sweden from Ukraine and have been granted temporary residence permits under the EU's mass migration directive can now submit an application to move to Sweden and be registered.
According to a decision by the European Union's council, the temporary protection has been extended for another year, until 4 March 2026.
According to the Swedish Tax Agency, the possibility of being registered in Sweden primarily applies to those who received their first residence permit with temporary protection during the first half of 2022.
Anyone who meets the requirements for registration must submit an application to the Swedish Tax Agency for relocation and also needs to book an appointment for a personal visit for identity verification.
"The Swedish Tax Agency will individually assess each application to determine whether the person meets the requirements to be registered. When a person is registered for the first time, it also means that their identity is officially confirmed in Sweden," says Sandra Hedberg, a legal expert at the Swedish Tax Agency, in a press release.
The Swedish Tax Agency will take on extra resources for the work but still estimates that the processing time for applications will be longer than usual during a transitional period.
