The catastrophic public-opinion situation means that the Liberals have nothing to lose by changing their previous red line against sitting in a government with the SD, believes Johansson Heinö.

It was only a matter of time before we would have to back down from this red line. But what we are doing now is not only giving ourselves a free mandate to possibly enter into a collaboration; now we are standing side by side with Jimmie Åkesson and going to the polls together.

In addition, the parties present a common political platform in a possible future government formation, including nationalizing schools.

Two advantages

Johansson Heinö sees two advantages to the Liberals' turnaround.

One is that you open the way to votes of support. The other is that you get the chance to talk about substantive politics. This has stood in the Liberals' way all along because they didn't want to let the SD into government.

He believes that party leader Simona Mohamsson has weighed these advantages against major divisions in the party.

It is up to those who want to split the party now to show that another alternative would have been better.

Original model

Johansson Heinö thinks it's an original model for two parties in the Tidö Partnership to produce a joint political program.

A natural follow-up question is how much of it, and whether any of it, is rooted in M and KD.

However, the Liberals have reservations about the SD: ministers in a possible right-wing government must be responsible and must be agreed upon by the party leader and the Prime Minister before they are appointed.

I think that is an L requirement to show that it won't be just anyone.
