In the beginning of the month, Acko Ankarberg Johansson said that she is running for the parliament for yet another term. A week later, she announced that she is leaving the government.
It may be that she has received a hint that she is no longer wanted in the government. It is unclear who may have told her that, but considering that she is a heavyweight name, one has to assume that Ebba Busch is involved in some way, says Jonas Hinnfors, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg.
Acko Ankarberg Johansson herself has not provided any real explanation for her departure, only that "it's time for someone else to take over".
She has been responsible for issues that are important to The Christian Democrats, such as the abolition of regions and shorter healthcare queues. But the fact that it has not been successful cannot be blamed on a single minister. It is more about the power relations within the government, says Jonas Hinnfors.
He believes that a possible dismissal of the Minister of Health may be about shifting focus from the fact that the party has failed to get its policy through on these issues.
Another possible reason for Ankarberg Johansson's departure is her statement that Sweden may be able to receive injured children from Gaza.
It is possible that it was not anchored in the party leadership.
