Around 6,400 students participated in the survey, of which one-third answered that they never, rarely, or only occasionally receive the help they need.
Among high school students, boys are more satisfied with access to help than girls . In both high school and upper secondary school, boys to a greater extent than girls experience that teachers support and encourage them in their schoolwork.
Of the 3,300 teachers who participated in the survey, many feel that they have limited opportunities to provide students with the right help. Six out of ten state that they cannot always provide the right support to students with special needs.
"Despite the fact that the shortcomings in terms of support in school have been highlighted in several studies over a long period, the results of this survey show that support is still insufficient for far too many students," says Thomas Furusten, report author and education counselor at the Swedish National Agency for Education, in a press release.
