Aaron Lindström went off track over a crest, lost his balance and crashed into the safety fence. The Swede was not far from the finish line when he crashed in the super-G race.
After about fifteen minutes, Lindström was able to get onto a sled under his own power and was taken down the hill. He was taken to hospital for further examination.
In hospital for two days
Later on Monday, the Swedish Parasports Association announced that Lindström had suffered a severe concussion and a small lung collapse. He will be observed in hospital for two days.
National team captain Joel Åkerström was standing right where the accident happened.
I saw right away when the ski cut and he was in the air - that this was not going to be good, Joel Åkerström tells SVT.
Åkerström had to wait a while before he was allowed to approach Lindström.
Finally I get to come in and I talk to him. Then it felt calmer. I immediately called his mother and they talked to each other. At least it felt calmer when I talked to him.
“Very difficult”
He was very confused and didn't really know where he was. He didn't understand what had happened. He wasn't really in his right mind.
The 25-year-old, who finished fourth in the downhill race on Saturday, had a good run coming up and could have challenged for a medal.
It was the last difficulties and then this happened. It comes absolutely secondary now, it's health that comes first. It's just really hard right now, Joel Åkerström tells SVT.
The competition's other Swede, Arvid Skoglund, crashed out.
