The company Vilhelmina Mineral AB is denied a processing concession for the mine in Stekenjokk, announces the Mining Authority. The mine – which has been closed for 36 years – has been disputed.

The company has not managed to demonstrate a deposit that can be economically exploited, according to the Mining Authority's assessment. Therefore, the application is rejected.

On the other hand, Vilhelmina Mineral AB is granted a processing concession for a deposit containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver in Vilhelmina municipality.

The Mining Authority also grants Talga AB a processing concession for the graphite deposit Nunasvaara Södra in Kiruna municipality.

The application has been questioned by, among others, Sami villages in the area as well as organizations that have found general deficiencies in the application.

The decisions can be appealed to the government.
