Nina Larsson is presented at a press conference by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) and The Liberals' party leader Johan Pehrson.
Nina is originally an officer by profession, but she also has solid experience from both politics and business, says Kristersson.
Larsson was a member of parliament between 2006 and 2014, and for the last four years of that period also The Liberals' party secretary.
In the 2024 EU election, she stood in fifth place on The Liberals' list.
"The assessment they made"
Now, she becomes the new Minister for Gender Equality and Labour. She does not want to tell when she was asked to become a minister.
It's a question between me and Johan Pehrson, she says.
She says, however, that she did not hesitate.
Former Minister for Gender Equality Paulina Brandberg (L) announced yesterday that she is leaving. She explained her departure by wanting to spend more time with her family.
But The Liberals were shaken on Monday by more heavy resignations. Party secretary Jakob Olofsgård also resigned, and head of office Oscar Wåglund Söderström announced that he will leave in May.
On the question of whether there is any connection between Brandberg and Olofsgård leaving on the same day, Pehrson answers:
It's the assessment they made, and I have respect for that.
On questions about the two having given the same personal reasons for why they are leaving, outwardly, Pehrson answers:
In essence, but I will never tell about conversations I have as a leader.
For more comments on the reasons, he refers to Olofsgård and Brandberg.
Violence against women
Ulf Kristersson emphasizes that the work against honour-related violence and oppression is highly prioritized by the government.
We are simultaneously very concerned that the deadly violence in close relationships is not decreasing. Eleven women were murdered last year in close relationships. There is still a lot to be done, and that responsibility now takes over Nina Larsson, says he.
Nina Larsson has no previous political experience of working specifically with gender equality issues. But she says that gender equality affects all policy areas and that she will work broadly.
