After Speaker Andreas Norlén's second round with the party leaders, his message was that he wanted more time to consider it. But he promises an announcement during the week.
The goal is to decide who will be given the exploratory mission this time, after S leader Magdalena Andersson gave up her first attempt to form a new government on Monday.
But the two leading prime ministerial candidates' attitude to receiving the assignment in this situation seems like asking them to accept a sack of rotten potatoes.
V does not drop the demand
Andersson thinks that M leader Ulf Kristersson should get it, because V voted for M's candidate, Andreas Norlén, as speaker.
Kristersson, in turn, points out that S, MP, C and V have Andersson as their prime ministerial candidate. And the four red-green parties have the most seats in the Riksdag.
I have said what I think, and that is that you test the majority that believes it has jointly won the election and wants to form a government, then they have to sort out whether they can form a government or not, says Kristersson.
But as long as C neither intends to switch sides to the Tidö parties - nor accept a red-green government collaboration with V - there is no solution in sight.
V leader Nooshi Dadgostar says that dropping the demand for ministerial posts is out of the question.
Of course we have to be in a government, otherwise these thirty mandates cannot be counted, she says.
C: V blocks the most
Dadgostar thinks that C leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist could be given the assignment to probe.
The Center Party claims that there are many other constellations with which they could form a government. It would be interesting to investigate so that we get an answer to that.
Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist, however, does not see this as relevant at the moment. She points to V as the one blocking the process the most.
If the requirements for the first meeting are to talk about ministerial posts, then we think it is pointless, she says.
C would prefer to see a center-right government with the S leader as prime minister, which could also include MP, L and KD. But neither KD nor L are open to that at the moment.
It can be stated that Andersson has made a pathetic attempt in the last two weeks, says L leader Simona Mohamsson, who does not "think of saving" the S leader.
SD: Try Andersson
Thand Ringqvist reiterates that her party cannot support a government that SD is in or collaborates with.
Both C and MP think that Kristersson should be given the exploratory assignment now.
SD leader Jimmie Åkesson wants to see a quick vote on Magdalena Andersson as prime minister.
"It should happen as soon as possible so that we can move forward in the process," he says.
Christian Democrats leader Ebba Busch also believes that Andersson should be tried in the chamber. Only “in war, crisis or exceptional circumstances” is she ready to cooperate across bloc boundaries.
"We're not there yet," says Busch.
