Plastic caps must be secure and grandfathers can take parental leave.

On Monday, the game plan is being rewritten for many as new rules and law changes come into effect.

Grandfathers can take parental leave

Parents of small children can transfer some of their days with parental benefits to, for example, relatives. However, the person transferring the days may not work, seek employment, or study during the time when parental benefits are being received.

Paper receipts can be thrown away

The Bookkeeping Act is being changed so that it is no longer necessary to save receipts and invoices in paper form, as long as they have been scanned or photographed. However, the transfer to digital form must be done correctly.

Easier to evict criminals

A tenant who has committed a crime that impairs the living environment for other residents can be evicted, even if the crime was committed at a distance from the apartment. This also applies if the tenant commits a crime that can trigger revenge actions.

Money back to the 1957 cohort

People born in 1957 may be entitled to compensation due to the increase in the age limit for higher basic allowance. The size of the compensation is calculated based on established income and the municipal tax rate for 2023.

Plastic caps must be secure

After July 2, beverage containers must be designed so that the cap remains attached during the entire use. This applies to bottles and cartons under three liters, but not to plastic corks on glass or metal bottles.

Gambling tax increases

The points tax on gambling increases from 18 to 22 percent. It is the gaming companies' revenue that is taxed, i.e., the difference between the total stakes and the total payouts.

Denial of the Holocaust is criminalized

Anyone who denies, excuses, or downplays the Holocaust can be convicted of incitement against a group of people when the Penal Code is changed on July 1. The Freedom of the Press Act will also be changed in the same way, but it will take until January 1, 2027.

Better information when buying a car

When selling new cars, information about fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions must be clearly visible on or near the sales location. Advertisements for new cars must also include such information.

More secret surveillance

Later this year, from September 1, the police will be able to use secret surveillance and secret monitoring of electronic communication for preventive purposes to combat many more types of crimes than before. This applies to, among other things, serious tax offenses, serious theft, serious smuggling, and serious money laundering, but only if the criminal activity is suspected to be systematic or organized.

Corrected: An earlier version incorrectly stated the date of the law change regarding secret surveillance.
