New car registrations increased by 14 percent in January compared to the same period last year, according to new monthly statistics from Mobility Sweden. At the same time, the share of rechargeable passenger cars accounted for 52 percent of new registrations, an increase of 15 percent compared to January 2023.
This is happening simultaneously as electric cars accounted for 29 percent of new registrations (an increase of 15 percent).
"Our assessment is that electric cars will continue to increase and account for 40 percent of new registrations during the year," says Sofia Linder, chief economist for the industry organization Mobility Sweden in a press release.
