According to Friday's opinion polls, the Tidö bloc has eaten up some of the opposition's lead. In the DN/Ipsos poll, it was a dead heat, with only a 0.3 percentage point difference between the blocs.
"I never care about opinion polls," says Kristersson, and is met with laughter from the election workers who are with him.
The Moderate leader and election workers have gathered in a residential area in Nacka, outside Stockholm, to knock on doors.
Sees opportunities and risks
Kristersson compares the situation with six weeks ago and says he has a "sense of victory".
You had a feeling that we had a long way to go. Now I think it's quite obvious that it's a real match. We are within the margin of error and that means there are all possibilities and all risks.
A large part of the recovery of the Tidö parties is due to the late awakening of the Liberals. This, in turn, is largely based on support votes, not least from M voters, according to opinion polls.
This means that M ends up clearly below the Sweden Democrats in the polls.
Kristersson does not want to speculate on what this means for the space for SD ministers in the next Tidö government. But inviting SD leader Jimmie Åkesson to the post of prime minister is not a current issue, the M leader insists.
All negotiations about precise policies, precise compromises, precise distribution of different ministries, everything like that, are taken the day after the election. For roughly the same reason as this old party leader said: you don't sell the skin until the bear is shot.
“Conversations have an impact”
Kristersson justifies the focus on door knocking on the last day of campaigning before the election by saying that it is fun and enjoyable. But it is also important, according to the Moderate leader.
It is ultimately conversations between people that influence what conclusions are drawn politically, he says.
Campaign posters and heated debates are all well and good, but I believe in regular conversations about everyday issues, he adds.
However, on the schedule for Saturday there is also a television debate against S leader Magdalena Andersson on TV4 tonight.
