Serious irregularities and several escapes lead Ivo to prohibit continued operations at the Utsikten unit at the National Board of Institutional Care's youth home Vemyra in Sollefteå municipality.

"It is testified that a situation has arisen where the young people placed have to some extent taken over and are running the operations, and that the staff have not taken sufficient measures to counteract threat and violence situations", says Pia Karlsson, unit manager at Ivo, in a press release.

The operations must be closed no later than Friday, May 23. The children at the unit will be relocated.

"When the deficiencies are so serious, we need to act quickly to ensure the safety and security of those placed", says Pia Karlsson, unit manager at IVO.

Only on one other occasion has the authority previously prohibited operations at a Sis home.

Sis has appealed the Ivo decision, and thus the case ends up with the Administrative Court.

"We do not share IVO's overall assessment. Certain conclusions, for example that we do not have the ability or intention to promptly address shortcomings, we also believe are incorrect", says Johan Feldtmann, chief of staff in youth care.
