In line with the increasing international tensions in the world, the use of the death penalty in Iran is also increasing, warns IHR.
At least 230 people, including eight women, have been executed this year, most of them for charges of murder and drug offenses. During the same period last year, 110 people were executed.
Among the 59 people executed in March, five were women. One of them was a 24-year-old who was hanged after killing her fiancé, whom she was forced to marry.
IHR warns that Iran may take advantage of the public's fear of a conflict with the US to execute more political prisoners. Last year, the country executed 975 prisoners, the highest number since IHR began keeping statistics on Iran in 2008.
