The purpose of the emergency schools is to remove disruptive students from regular education and temporarily place them outside their own class.

In total, 90 municipalities and private schools have received government grants to open an emergency school. Of these, it is more than one in four schools that stand empty.

It's a waste of the funds we have to run schools, says a school principal who spoke to P4.

The initiative covers 750 million kronor between 2023 and 2027. No evaluations have been made, and now several school principals are planning to return the grant.

According to the government, the initiative is necessary.

I think anyone who follows media reporting realizes that we have major problems with students who can't behave, says Education Minister Lotta Edholm (L) to P4.
