Several hundred employees at the French gaming giant Ubisoft, behind series such as "Assassin's Creed", have gone on strike. The employees are protesting against having to return to the company's offices around the world and want to continue remote work to the extent they have been able to so far.
Ubisoft has over 20,000 employees in about 30 countries. The company is divided into different studios, with offices in Malmö and Stockholm in Sweden.
The company has had a tough economic year after several titles, including Swedish-developed "Star Wars Outlaws", failed to reach expected heights. Just a few weeks ago, the launch of the next installment in the cash cow "Assassin's Creed" was also pushed back. Ubisoft's stock price was at its lowest level in ten years in September. Since the turn of the year, the value has plummeted by more than 40 percent.
Lola, one of the striking developers, tells AFP that the mood is "bleak":
How long will it take before they start firing people?
