The Consumer Ombudsman is issuing a warning to ten companies for deceptive pricing information in connection with Black Friday. Among other things, one of the companies is said to have sold a winter jacket, claiming it was discounted by 22 percent, despite the fact that it was actually more expensive than it had been previously.
"We consumers want to feel like we're making a good purchase. That's why we're particularly attracted to red prices, campaigns, and big discounts", says Maja Lindstrand in a press release.
The ten companies are Blomsterlandet, Bygghemma, Nakd, Nordic Nest, Power, Soffadirekt, Stadium, Webhallen, XXL, and Åhlens. The total fine is 22 million kronor.
When a product is sold at a reduced price, the company must state the lowest previous price at which the item was sold during the last 30 days, according to the pricing information law.
Discounts in percent or kronor must be based on the previous lowest price.
