DN has requested all receipts, invoices, and expenses from the country's regional politicians so far this year. From the five parties that have had their party days in 2025 and are included in the review – C, KD, L, M, and S – 182 politicians have let taxpayers pay for hotel nights, train trips, and dinners in connection with these.

Costs that are actually supposed to be paid by the parties themselves, says Olle Lundin, professor of administrative law at Uppsala University, to DN.

Almost half, 89, have also sent the bill for costs in connection with party evenings.

KD stands out

In total, it's about 785,000 kronor from the taxpayers' pocket.

Christian Democrats stand out. After the KD days in April, 89 of the party's politicians sent the bill to the region for a total cost of over 444,000 kronor. 73 of them also let taxpayers pay for what the invoice calls "Party evening" with a three-course dinner.

After KD, The Moderate Party is the party where most have let taxpayers pay for costs in connection with party days: 45 people for a total cost of just under 153,000 kronor.

Breach of law

24 Center Party members have done the same thing. In addition, several have requested compensation for lost work income when they took leave to attend the party days – a clear breach of law according to Olle Lundin, who reacts strongly to DN's review.

It's completely unreasonable. If you as a politician don't understand that transportation and hotels really don't belong to the taxpayers' wallet, then it should ring alarm bells when you sit down and eat food and drink wine at the taxpayers' expense, he says to the newspaper.
