ABB has long had the strategy of producing locally for local markets, and this serves the company well as the Trump administration intends to raise tariffs on many imported goods.
"In the USA, as much as 75-80 percent of our sales consist of domestic production," writes Morten Weirod.
Revenues increased
ABB reports an operating profit of 1,567 million dollars for the first quarter of 2025.
During the corresponding quarter a year earlier, the operating profit was 1,217 million dollars.
Revenues for the first quarter amounted to 7,935 million dollars. The same quarter a year earlier, revenues totaled 7,870 million dollars.
The order intake was 9,213 million dollars, compared to 8,974 million dollars for the corresponding quarter the previous year.
Spinning off
The company is simultaneously announcing that it will initiate a process to propose to its annual general meeting in 2026 to decide on a 100-percent spin-off of the Robotics division.
The intention is for the business to start trading as a separate listed company during the second quarter of 2026.
Wallenberg sphere's power company Investor writes in a press release that, as ABB's largest shareholder, it fully supports the plan for a spin-off.
"As a long-term shareholder in ABB, we believe that the planned spin-off is industrially logical and creates two companies with increased focus, great potential for continued profitable growth, and long-term value creation for shareholders," comments Investor's CEO and Group President Christian Cederholm in a press release.
