Djurö National Park is an isolated archipelago in Lake Vänern, made up of about 30 islands and skerries. Djurö, the main island and the park’s northernmost island, has natural harbours used by boating visitors. The landscape includes rocky shores, beaches and dense forest.
On Djurö, visitors can walk winding trails, see the old lighthouse and watch birds. The park is suited to birdwatching. Its listed birdlife includes the black-throated diver, several kinds of duck, crow, raven, gulls and terns. The park describes Djurö as a well-known and popular excursion destination for boating on Vänern.
People lived on the island from the 17th century until 1969, when the last lighthouse keeper left. Wikidata records the national park as founded or opened in 1991. Its trails, lighthouse and birdlife give visitors ways to explore the main island on foot. The natural harbours are part of the archipelago’s appeal to boaters on the lake.
