The Lilla Färnäset canoe trail is a 5 km paddle in north-western Uppland, on the border with Gästrikland. It follows Lerån through forest, crosses part of Storfjärden and returns by Tångsån. The river water is not fast-flowing. The route is described as easy to reach and suitable for a day out with children. The start is just off the road, with a coffee table there.

Paddle clockwise from the start. After a short while, an old, large oak stands on the left. You can land there and use a picnic table for coffee. The meadow around it is kept open by mowing and is a remnant of the hay meadows once found across Färnäset. The site is also described as a place to camp.

Fogdön lies about halfway across Storfjärden. Its rest area has a wind shelter, a fireplace and firewood. The shore is steep, which can make landing difficult for beginners. The wind shelter can be used for an overnight stay, but finding a place to camp on the island is difficult. From the lake, Tångsån leads back to the start. In late summer, high reeds can make the stream hard to find. If you cannot locate it, turn around and paddle back the way you came.

Good to know

Start just off the road and paddle clockwise. In late summer, if high reeds make Tångsån hard to find, turn back and return the way you came.
