August Strindberg lived in the Blue Tower, Blå tornet, from 1908 until his death in 1912. The museum preserves his three-room flat: a bedroom, a salon and a workroom. There is no kitchen; the museum says Strindberg ordered meals from a boarding house upstairs or from nearby restaurants.
Visitors can explore on their own or join a guided tour. The bedroom has a balcony where the labour movement came to pay its respects to Strindberg. In the Art Nouveau salon, he gathered his Beethoven figures for food and music. In the workroom, he wrote his final literary works by hand by the light of an oil lamp, despite serious illness.
The museum’s website lists a book circle for autumn 2026, with discussions of Strindberg’s writing from present-day, personal perspectives. The texts listed include the play Erik XIV, the novel Han och hon and the story Ensam.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 12:00 to 16:00, and closed on Mondays. Its website lists closures on December 23–25, December 31 and January 1. The address is Drottninggatan 85, Stockholm.
