Solen is the latest restaurant from Adam Dahlberg and Albin Wessman, whom Visit Stockholm describes as a Michelin-starred duo. It is in Slakthusområdet, the former meatpacking district just outside central Stockholm.
The name means “the sun”. Visit Stockholm says the menu takes flavors from sunnier parts of the world, including the Mediterranean and the Middle East, with South America also in the mix. Fire runs through both the cooking and the room: ingredients are roasted, grilled or smoked over open flames, and a large fire pit stands at the center of the dining room.
Solen’s website sketches combinations rather than setting out a full menu. Its description invokes Naples, Oaxaca and Santa Fe, and names pizza with tabbouleh, peaches with persimmons, and calamares with jalapeños. Other pairings include burrata with baharat, harissa with salsiccia, and pistachios with baba ganoush. The site also describes food served hot from the grill and cold drinks from the bar, with plates shared among family, friends or dates. The descriptions point to a meal built around shared plates and flavors drawn from several regions.
