The exhibition at Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde in Stockholm is on view now and continues until 28 February 2027. It looks at the Gothenburg Colorists, a group whose painting flourished in the 1930s, through works by well-known members including Åke Göransson, Ivan Ivarson, Nils Nilsson, Karin Parrow, Ragnar Sandberg and Inge Schiöler.
Around 90 works bring the artists into dialogue with their predecessors and later painters, including Tor Bjurström, Gösta Sandels, Lena Cronqvist, Bella Rune and Ebba Svensson. The show also includes artists who have received less attention in accounts of the movement, such as Märta Taube-Ivarson, Ragnvald Magnusson and Erling Ärlingsson. Portraits, landscapes, city scenes and still lifes show how the artists used colour and free brushwork to shape their subjects. The exhibition broadens the story of a Swedish art movement often told through a small group of painters. It is arranged with the Gothenburg Museum of Art.
