Maria Sjödin’s Nocturne turns couture into sculpture at Haymarket, where the exhibition is on view in Gretas. The black-and-red works bring distressed and torn silk, frayed edges and raw surfaces together with couture precision. Their silhouettes move between dark sensuality and drama, and the pieces examine the pull between structure and motion, elegance and rawness.
Sjödin describes the exhibition as avant-garde couture inspired by Parisian elegance and Berlin’s dark, raw edge. It is for visitors interested in fashion as a material art form, as well as those drawn to sculptural work made with textiles. The exhibition remains on view through January, giving visitors in Stockholm a chance to see how carefully worked silk can hold both polish and visible damage.
