James Cameron, Challenging the Deep is on view at Stockholm’s Vasa Museum through September 2027. The temporary exhibition brings together props from Cameron’s feature films, film projections and rare objects, presenting underwater endeavours from both his real-life work and fiction.
Visitors can explore deep-sea environments through Cameron’s underwater cameras and technological innovations. The exhibition presents his work as a filmmaker, ocean explorer and technology innovator, including films such as Avatar and Titanic. The Australian National Maritime Museum developed it with the Avatar Alliance Foundation.
The Vasa Museum is the exhibition’s first venue in Europe. The Australian National Maritime Museum’s director says it has something to offer visitors of all ages.

The walk starts outside the Vasa Museum, continues through the Djurgården area and ends on the Beckholmen island. Hear about Vasa’s sinking in 1628, the salvage in 1961, and the work to preserve & display the ship. Sound, music & visual elements bring the places to life.
