At Stockholm’s Royal Armoury, Hatt Couture follows the hat as an accessory worn by Swedish royals from the mid-20th-century golden age of hats into the 2000s. The exhibition brings together hats from the museum’s collections, including pieces belonging to Queen Louise and Princesses Sibylla and Margaretha, alongside modern hats and hair ornaments borrowed from Princess Christina and Princess Sofia. The displays show how royal headwear was worn for both formal occasions and everyday settings, in line with the royal dress code.
The full exhibition is on view this week, but its Coach Hall section, featuring hats from Princesses Christina and Sofia, closes on 6 December 2026. Hats from the Royal Armoury’s collection on the mezzanine remain on display through 29 August 2027. Visitors can try on a hat, learn hat vocabulary and watch a film in which the two princesses discuss their creations. The show also introduces milliners Rune Holmgren and Gaby Röstberg, who worked in the mid-20th century.
