Masthuggsteatern is a theatre company based in Masthugget, Gothenburg. It works with a variety of methods, materials and forms of artistic expression, with a strong focus on newly written Swedish plays. That focus puts new Swedish writing at the centre of the company’s work, alongside its use of different materials and artistic forms.

Masthuggsteatern also develops long-term thematic projects. The named examples are Den fria viljan, En annan värld and Stafetten; Stafetten is a three-year project supported by the Swedish Inheritance Fund. The theatre is based in Masthugget, but tours throughout Sweden.

The company has been selected for the Swedish Theatre Biennale and Bibu on several occasions. Bibu is the Swedish performing arts biennale for children and young people. Masthuggsteatern has received numerous prizes and awards. Its work spans newly written Swedish plays, thematic projects and touring, and its selection history includes a biennale for performing arts aimed at children and young people.
