Hagateatern is a neighbourhood theatre in central Gothenburg, near Järntorget. Visitors can attend performances for children and adults, alongside guest productions, seminars, debates and play readings. The programme is run by a performing arts collective that explores contemporary social issues through original plays. It ranges from staged work to events built around discussion and readings.

The building dates to 1911, when it served as a cinema. It became a theatre in 1990 and took the name Hagateatern in 2003. Today, the intimate venue brings the stage and audience close together. The theatre’s productions combine humour, reflection and artistic curiosity, and are intended to move and challenge audiences. Its history of changing use sits alongside a current programme for both young and adult audiences. A visit can centre on a performance, seminar, debate or play reading, depending on the programme. The close setting makes each event an encounter between the audience and the stage.
