Maritiman is a floating museum moored along Packhuskajen in central Gothenburg, with nine historic vessels from different eras. The ships are moored side by side, so visitors can move between them at their own pace, climb above deck and go below the surface. The collection includes the submarine Nordkaparen, the destroyer Jagaren Småland, the lightship Fladen, the harbour tug Storm Princess and the fireboat Flodsprutan II. Jagaren Småland lies furthest out towards the river; the tug and fireboat are among the vessels nearer the quay. The venue says the ships bring together seafaring stories, exhibitions and vessel history, offering an insight into life at sea without leaving the quay.
Children can follow treasure hunts with mascot Virvelina and join Tim for experiment shows in the Sea Lab. Its 11 hands-on stations cover the ocean, life at sea and the marine environment. Maritiman has a free audio guide in Swedish, English and German. Café Matrosen serves street food, including harbour burgers and other dishes. The venue website also invites visitors to enjoy fika there, then try experiments and puzzles with Tim and Virvelina.
