Gothenburg Central Station has several departure halls with services, restaurants, cafés and shops. It connects with nearby stops for local trains, trams and buses, making it a place to change for journeys around Gothenburg and elsewhere in West Sweden. While waiting for a train, travellers can eat breakfast, lunch or dinner, have fika, or buy food to take away. Shops sell books, magazines, design items, chocolate, souvenirs, clothes and electronics. The station also has Västtrafik customer service, a pharmacy, currency exchange services and cash machines.

At the end of 2026, the station is due to gain an underground section just north of the existing railway station. It will have four tracks, numbered 21–24, and two platforms. The existing above-ground tracks 1–16 will continue to operate as usual. Grand Central, a new station building directly above the underground tracks, will connect to the Nils Ericson Terminal bus station and the existing railway station. Access will also be available through the eastern Park Central building by Regionens hus, and western entrances towards the Nordstan shopping centres.

Allow a few extra minutes if changing between a train on tracks 1–16 and one on tracks 21–24. Follow the signs and check your route in advance.
