Brogyllen Hamngatan is a family-owned bakery and patisserie with roots in Gothenburg dating to 1962, according to Visit Sweden. The business began in the Olsson family’s cellar in Mölndal. Its flagship café on Västra Hamngatan opened in 1994, in central Gothenburg. Visit Sweden says the interior draws on classic cafés in Copenhagen, Vienna and Budapest, and that the café has views of the canal and the East India House.
The menu gives visitors options for a coffee-and-pastry stop or a lighter meal. Brogyllen serves coffee bread, cakes and classic Swedish pastries, as well as sourdough bread, pies and sandwiches. The Visit Sweden listing says the business uses flour from local mills and bakes sourdough in a stone oven.
Brogyllen has five additional stores in central Gothenburg and Mölndal, including locations in Saluhallen and Pedagogen Park. The Västra Hamngatan café is the location to choose for the canal and East India House views. A visit can focus on coffee and pastries, or include one of the lighter dishes on offer.
