Vällingudden is a pine forest reserve on a narrow peninsula that reaches into Lake Vällingen, about 15 kilometres north of Sandviken and six kilometres east of Järbo. The reserve covers 2 hectares and was protected in 1984. The county describes the forest as old-growth-like, with thick, old pines close to the water. Many are 200 to 300 years old, and holes in their trunks provide nest sites.
Woodpeckers have made cavities in the trees. Nuthatches and great tits nest in them; black woodpeckers also use large trees for nesting, and their old holes can later be used by boreal owls and stock doves. The reserve offers a chance to see the trees and bird habitat.
Getting to the area is relatively difficult. The county says there is currently no marked trail to Vällingudden. An information board is listed among the visitor services. Inside the reserve, lighting fires and taking firewood are prohibited. Motor vehicles are not allowed, and visitors may not climb trees with nests.
