Österbergsmuren is a 19-hectare nature reserve about 20 kilometres northwest of Sandviken, in Gästrikland. Its old conifer forest has fallen trees scattered across the ground. Pines on drier ground are often nearly 300 years old, and some trees are older. A broad wooden boardwalk, about 270 metres long, makes it easier to move through the forest. There are no trails in the reserve, so visitors can wander freely. Signs beside the boardwalk explain the bog, and a grill area with seating stands along the route.
The reserve is important for rare and threatened species. It has 99 recorded moss species and more than 300 butterfly species, as well as rare wood fungi. Red-listed species recorded there include fungi and birds, along with mosses, lichens, butterflies, beetles and mammals. Three-toed woodpeckers and capercaillie have been observed, and many birds nest in the area. Visitors can walk the boardwalk, read the signs and use the grill area. The information signs about the bog are described as engaging for children and adults.
