Penguins Vaccinated as Bird Flu and Extreme Heat Threaten Australian Wildlife This Summer
Australia has become the last continent to report its first cases of H5N1 bird flu. The virus is spreading rapidly, and the extreme weather expected this summer could, in the worst-case scenario, create the perfect storm for the mass death of thousands of birds and other animals. “The worst, devastating scenario would be that we lose entire species,” says Darren Grover, a biodiversity expert at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
