Police take a report of a romance scam on Tuesday. A woman in Sundsvall Municipality says that on several occasions she has sent money via Swish and bought gift cards for someone she had been in digital contact with for a long time.

A fraud report is filed.

Tips and advice on how to protect yourself

• Especially in the digital world, it is easy to hide behind a made-up facade. Never blindly trust that a person is who they claim to be.
• Scammers often claim that an accident has happened, or they want to send their belongings and valuables to you. You will later be asked to pay for the items.
• Be careful about sending money at the request of someone you have never met.
• If you have access to a profile picture from social media or a dating site, you can do an image search. This will tell you whether the image was taken from an official image bank.
