The police have received several calls about attempts at fraud in the areas around Strängnäs/Mariefred today.

The method is that the person calls elderly people and says they are calling from the police and that there has been a break-in in the area where you live.

They then want to know if the person should be at home and often offer to come and take care of valuable items to prevent theft. The method can vary slightly, but it is roughly similar stories in the current cases that have come in today.

This is a scam! Be aware that the police will not come and pick up valuable items under the pretext of protecting the person from a break-in. Nor do they contact via the phone to warn of previous break-ins in the area, as in this case.

If the police issue current warnings, they are primarily done via the police's social media, polisen.se, and through official spokespersons.

If you receive a call from a stranger saying this, hang up the phone and call and report that you have been a victim of an attempted scam.
