Warning for scammers!
The police have received several calls about attempts at elderly crime in the eastern region today. There have been several cases in Södermanland today, and before that also cases in the Stockholm area. The police are warning of caution as it is very likely that the problem will continue south through the country in the coming days.
The approach is that the person calls elderly people and says that they are calling from the police and that there has been a break-in in the area where you live.
They then want to know if the person should be at home and often offer to come and take care of valuable items to prevent theft. Sometimes they claim to be from an insurance company to collect jewelry and other belongings.
The approach can vary slightly, but it is roughly similar stories in the current cases that have come in today.
This is a scam! Be aware that the police will not come and collect valuable items under the pretext of protecting the person from break-ins. Nor do they contact by phone to warn of previous break-ins in the area as in this case.
If the police issue current warnings, it is mainly done via the police's social media, polisen.se, and via public spokespersons.
If you receive a call from an unknown person, hang up the phone and call and report if you have been a victim of a scam attempt.
